Do not judge a Cash App settlement text or check by the logo alone. Treat it as untrusted until the contact path, amount, and requested action match an official Cash App, CFPB, state attorney-general, or court source.
Fast check
A legitimate settlement contact should not ask you to pay money first, share your Cash App PIN, give a one-time sign-in code, install remote-access software, or move money to "verify" your account. If any of that appears, stop and use an official support path you type yourself.
Real path versus scam path
| What you see | Safer interpretation | Next step |
|---|---|---|
| Message mentions the CFPB Cash App settlement. | Possible, but still verify outside the message. | Open Cash App Help or use the CFPB enforcement page contact information. |
| Message says the "$45 million settlement" has a user claim fee. | High risk. The $45 million state settlement is not described by primary sources as a public claim-fee program. | Do not pay. Check the state AG or CFPB source directly. |
| Caller asks for your PIN, passcode, or remote access. | Scam signal. | End contact and report the message from inside Cash App or to the relevant regulator. |
What happened
The CFPB issued an order against Block on January 16, 2025, involving Cash App customer service, fraud handling, and error-resolution practices. Separately, in July 2026, participating states announced a $45 million multistate settlement. Those are real regulatory matters, but that does not make every text, check photo, email, social post, or phone call about them real.
Who may be affected
The CFPB redress process is for affected consumers covered by the order. The state settlement has state-level allocations and obligations. If a message claims you qualify, verify that claim from an official source before giving information or depositing a check.
Safe next steps
- Do not tap links in the message. Type the official address or open Cash App Help yourself.
- Compare the sender, contact details, amount, and deadline with official Cash App or CFPB information.
- Use Cash App's CFPB settlement page for settlement-specific account questions.
- For ordinary Cash App support, use the official app support route or the published support number.
- Keep screenshots, envelopes, check stubs, tracking numbers, and message headers before reporting.
What not to do
- Do not pay taxes, fees, gift cards, crypto, or a "release charge" to receive settlement money.
- Do not return part of a check after a stranger says the payment was too high.
- Do not search the web and call the first "Cash App settlement support" number you see.
- Do not give a one-time sign-in code to anyone on a call or chat.
